The article deals with the analysis of the editorial, publishing and bibliographical work of Vasyl Simovych in the context of educational movements in Bukovyna at the beginning of the 20th century.

The publishing inheritance of this period still remains poorly studied. Only a few studies of the multinational press are comprehensive. As for the Ukrainian press, there are separate bibliological articles of the early twentieth century, Soviet times (which due to ideology were not complete), as well as the period of independence. However, scholars have often analyzed it through the prism of history or literature, omitting the actual publishing aspects. There are few researches concerning publishing work of the representatives of Ukrainian professional class of that time, one of which was Vasyl Simovych.

The article deals with his work during the period from 1900 till 1914 (Bukovyna period). It describes the editions he has been working at as an editor, translator and compiler.

The article characterizes his cooperation with national societies “Moloda Ukraina” and “Sich”. It describes the organization of their publishing work which included publishing program development, work with the authors, problem aspects, etc. It distinguishes the articles about national and cultural development of Bukovyna at the beginning of the 20th century, which appears to be an important source for studying of the national book publishing of the region.

The source base of the research consists of archival materials, periodicals, memoirs of the contemporaries, epistolary legacy of Vasyl Simovych, works of Ukrainian researchers.
