The study explores the role of informal communication, which is regarded as a valuable complement and a means of reinforcing formal organizational structures, in achieving the strategic objectives of contemporary enterprises. Particular attention is paid to the way informal communication fosters adaptability, mutual understanding, and problem-solving capacity within corporate settings. Drawing on the example of the transnational company Goodvalley Ukraine, engaged in livestock farming and related industries, the research illustrates how informal communication becomes especially significant when the Ukrainian branch operates at a physical and cultural distance from the company’s head office in Denmark. The company’s main activities are located in the Prykarpattia region of Ukraine, an area characterized by strong local traditions and established social norms. These specific conditions pose additional challenges to organizational integration and coordination.
In this context, informal communication – such as face-to-face conversations outside the workplace, unstructured exchanges during breaks, or community-oriented events – facilitates quicker responses to emerging issues and strengthens mutual trust. The direct involvement of middle management, especially the Development and Communications Department, in informal interactions with employees enables more accurate assessments of team sentiment, expectations, and concerns. This, in turn, contributes to more effective strategic decision-making. The findings demonstrate that informal communication has a notable impact on corporate culture, employee motivation, internal cohesion, and overall organizational performance.
