Evaluation of quality indicators of photographic images converted to DNG format

The development of the media industry increases the demand for high-quality visual content, in particular digital photographic images. The photographic process is very flexible and the final result depends on many factors. In particular, the format of the data file affects the accuracy of capturing optical information. It is known that the maximum information about the color content and brightness of the photographic image is stored in the RAW format. But this format is interpreted uniquely by each manufacturer of digital photography equipment, which leads to difficulties in reading data by software. Therefore, Adobe Corporation has proposed its universal format for recording raw data from a photosensitive matrix - DNG. Since this file recording format is not yet integrated into the vast majority of camera software, the developers suggest converting the original RAW formats to DNG format.

The article considers the current issue of determining the quality characteristics of digital photographic images converted from RAW formats of different camera manufacturers to the DNG format. The authors conducted a detailed analysis of converted photographic images obtained by different camera models. Based on the data obtained, practical recommendations are offered for including the process of converting to the DNG format in the workflow of processing digital photographic images.
