The historical development of mass printing technologies and stages of their automation have been analyzed and the analogy with the functionality of modern desktop publishing has been conducted. The preconditions of formation of professional terminology and standard requirements for printing media reproduction have been considered. The directions of thematic adaptation of specialized collections to the curriculum in the field of automation and computer-integrated technologies have been researched. The educational nature of museum institutions as a factor in the development of general cultural and professional competence of students has been grounded.
