The right to inform in the context of european democratic values: the Ukrainian experience

The purpose of the article is to study the peculiarities of the realization of the right to information in Ukrainian society, taking into account the information challenges of the XXI century and identifying opportunities to overcome them in line with European de­mocratic values. The basis of the research is the general logical methods and techniques of cognition, in particular analysis, synthesis, generalization, systematic approach – for comprehensive consideration of the legal framework for the realization of the right to information, its content elements; methods of comparison and generalization – to study the attitude of scientists and experts on fakes and misinformation, as well as directions of counteracting these phenomena in the modern media space without restricting the right to information.

The Ukrainian experience of exercising the right to information in the context of European democratic values is revealed.

The Ukrainian experience in the exercise of the right to information is systematized, the importance of the implementation of European legislative practices on the right to privacy, protection of personal information, confidentiality, etc. are substantiated. The study of European experience and current domestic initiatives to solve the problem of mass of fakes and misinformation as manifestations of hypertrophy and distortion of the right to information in the Ukrainian realities has been further developed.

The results of the study can be used to develop actions to counteract fakes and misinformation with the right to information in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
