The article deals with the problems of information support of the educational process after the decision of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (2014) abolishing the procedure of giving the special permission (so called “griffin”) for high school educational editions. The advantages and flaws of the creation, approval and using of the educational editions in the period of giving “griffins” have been analyzed, and risks of functioning of textbooks, having been published after annulling of this procedure have been valued. The experience of western scholars and publishers who insist on making the sphere of using the educational editions narrow at high school within “introductory courses” and basic disciplines has been described. Because of the principle reforming the high school in Ukraine (its result planned to be deeper in scientific content of the educational process) the author, having example of the European and American colleagues, proposes changing wide using of textbooks to the scholarly editions — monographs, collections of scientific works, special magazines. Such approach advanced new problems for authors and publishers of the scholarly works: they have to forecast the possibility of using these works not only by colleagues-specialists but by university students. At the same time, it allows to modernize the educational process at high school fostering its transformation into rightful scientific institution.
